Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has an alternate version sequel?
My younger brother has been telling me for years about a very different version of the book sequal to “Charlie And The Chocolate Factory,” Where Charlie has grown up to become an evil dictator, kiling the Oompa Loompas and selling his family into slavery.
No one else I know has ever seen or heard of this. Even my older brother, who supposedly read this to younger brother, does not remember this. Yet younger brother still insists the book is real.
Has anyone else seen this book?
of course it’s not…. how could charlie become a dictator since he’s been so poor in his life? the book does have a sequel though. it’s called “charlie and the big glass lift” or something anyway is about the lift. i haven’t read it but i know the summary.

Chocolate Factory $6.19 Perhaps R. Kelly’s brushes with the law have caused him to turn down his love light, since his seventh album Chocolate Factory takes scrupulous pains to show an idealized high-minded face of love, eschewing his usual steamy cocktail of raunchy lust and replacing it with a sweet, winsome romanticism. “I’ll Never Leave,” is a wistful valentine, while “The Heart of a Woman,” is embarrassingly empathe… |

A Limey In The Court Of Uncle Sam $11.98 An Englishman is plucked from his native land at a young age and sent to the USA by his parents. He transferred to a world which he had previously only dreamt of. With his family he was bombed out during the 1939-1945 war and was brought up in Reading, Berkshire. He would eventually find out that his earlier years had not really prepared him for the wide, new world he was thrust into. His arrival in the United States of America filled him awe and much trepidation. This happened in the 1950s and he had little choice but to make the best of it. He joined the American Air Force and this action was to set him on a path which would have a profound effect on his later life. In the service of Uncle Sam he was sent back to England for overseas duty. Love interests are in abundance and what started out as a blissful ‘chocolate factory’ experience would soon develop into heart wrenching events. Later he would use some of his experiences in the United States Air Force and the USA to his advantage when later he was pitched into the exciting world of Night Clubs and later still the night life of Amsterdam. Hank Williams songs are used to illustrate and set some of the scenes. |

Buildings And Structures In Norwich $14.98 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Chapters: Museums in Norwich, Royal Norfolk Regiment, Dragon Hall, Norwich, Norwich High School for Girls, Norwich Castle, Maddermarket Theatre, Norwich, City of Norwich Aviation Museum, City Hall, Norwich, Great Hospital, Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, Chapelfield, Sewell Barn Theatre, Cow Tower, Norwich, Trowse Bridge, Jarrolds, the Forum, Norwich, Theatre Royal, Norwich, Norwich Buddhist Centre, Norfolk Tower, St. Andrew’s Hall, Norwich, Norwich Playhouse. Excerpt: Chapelfield is a large indoor shopping mall located on the edge of Norwich city centre, on the site previously occupied by the Caleys (later Rowntree Mackintosh and Nestlé ) chocolate factory. The centre opened on Wednesday 21 September 2005, and was described as ‘a major new shopping experience’ by A. Man, featuring a new three-floor flagship House of Fraser department store. It was claimed to be the largest shopping centre to open in Britain in 2005, with 80 shops and 17 cafés and restaurants.Like many new retail developments, Chapelfield opened amidst much fanfare and local controversy, with feeling in some quarters that the development brought little of real value to the city centre, instead turning Norwich into yet another clone city , and because there is another shopping centre, the Castle Mall, near the market square.Criticism has been levelled at the new development, suggesting that the ‘new’ shops are mostly stores that have relocated from elsewhere in the town centre. The developers respond, however, that 50 % of the stores are ‘completely new to Norwich’ with the only House of Fraser in the region .In May 2006 it was announced that some businesses in the mall were under performing due to a lack of trade .In 2006, the mall won the BCSC Gold Award for Best In-Town Retail Scheme References |

Canadian Microbiologists: F lix D’herelle $9.43 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Félix d’Herelle (April 25, 1873 February 22, 1949) was a French-Canadian microbiologist, the co-discoverer of bacteriophages (viruses that infect bacteria) and experimented with the possibility of phage therapy. D’Herelle was born in Montreal, Quebec, the son of French emigrants. His father, 30 years older than his wife, died when Félix was 6 years old. Félix, his mother and his younger brother Daniel, moved back to Paris. When sixteen years old, he started to travel through western Europe on bike. When 17, after finishing school (he attended the Lycée Condorcet and Lycée Louis-le-Grand high schools), he travelled through South America. Afterwards, he continued his travels through Europe, including Turkey, where he met his wife, Marie Caire. At age 24, now father of a daughter, he and his family moved back to Canada. He built a home laboratory and studied microbiology from books and his own experiments. He earned money by working for the Canadian government, studying the fermentation and distillation of maple syrup to schnapps. He also worked as a medic for a geological expedition, even though he had no medical degree or real experience. Together with his brother, he invested almost all his money in a chocolate factory, which soon went bankrupt. With his money almost gone and his second daughter born, he took a contract with the government of Guatemala as a bacteriologist at the hospital in Guatemala City. As a side job, he was asked to find a way to make whiskey from bananas. Life in the rough and dangerous environment of the country was hard on his family, but d’Herelle, always adventurer at heart, rather enjoyed working close to “real life”, compared to the sterile environments of a “civilized” clinic. He later stated that his scientific |

Caviar With Champagne $42.21 Life has become more joyous, comrades. –Josef Stalin, 1936 Stalin’s Russia is best known for its political repression, forced collectivization and general poverty. Caviar with Champagne presents an altogether different aspect of Stalin’s rule that has never been fully analyzed – the creation of a luxury goods society. At the same time as millions were queuing for bread and starving, drastic changes took place in the cultural and economic policy of the country, which had important consequences for the development of Soviet material culture and the promotion of its ideals of consumption. The 1930s witnessed the first serious attempt to create a genuinely Soviet commercial culture that would rival the West. Government ministers took exploratory trips to America to learn about everything from fast food hamburgers to men’s suits in Macy’s. The government made intricate plans to produce high-quality luxury goods en masse, such as chocolate, caviar, perfume, liquor and assorted novelties. Perhaps the best symbol of this new cultural order was Soviet Champagne, which launched in 1936 with plans to produce millions of bottles by the end of the decade. Drawing on previously neglected archival material, Jukka Gronow examines how such new pleasures were advertised and enjoyed. He interprets Soviet-styled luxury goods as a form of kitsch and examines the ideological underpinnings behind their production. This new attitude toward consumption was accompanied by the promotion of new manners of everyday life. The process was not without serious ideological contradictions. Ironically, a factory worker living in the United States – the largest capitalist society in the world – would havebeen hard-pressed to afford caviar or champagne for a special occasion in the 1930s, but a Soviet worker theoretically could (assuming supplies were in stock). The Soviet example is unique since the luxury culture had to be created entirely from scratch, and the process was taken extreme |

Chains of Fortune: Best Practices in Linking Local Women Producers with Global Markets $22.5 Much has been written about the negative impact of globalization on the world’s poor, and especially on women. But globalization also opens up new economic opportunities if poor women producers and workers are enabled to take advantage of them. The need for assistance differs between independent producers on the one hand and wage workers in export industries on the other. In the former case, the need mainly is for increased access to global markets. In the latter case, it mainly is for better organizing so as to bargain for better wages and working conditions. This edited volume brings together six case studies: three which focus on linking local producers with global markets; and three which focus on improving conditions of wage workers and outworkers already integrated into export markets through global value chains. On the producer side, they include examples of: a cocoa cooperative of 45,000 producers in Ghana who are co-owners of a chocolate company in the UK; family-based cooperatives in Samoa which produce organic virgin coconut oil and related value-added products for export to Australia, New Zealand and Germany; and newly established small enterprises in Mozambique which are helping to regenerate the cashew processing and export industry with benefits for women small holders and factory workers. On the wage worker side, they include: thousands of women who have found jobs in the expanding industry in South Africa which exports deciduous fruits to Europe; hundreds of thousands of women in Bangladesh who have found paid employment and increased empowerment in the factories which export ready made garments to Europe and the UK; and thousands of women who have found employment in the newly created industries in India which export information technology-enabled services to Europe and the US. Each case study is written by a team of international and national researchers and aims to present decision makers with concrete examples of how policies |

Charlie And The Chocolate Factory (Film) $49.99 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a 2005 film adaptation of the 1964 book of the same name by Roald Dahl. Directed by Tim Burton, the film stars Freddie Highmore as Charlie Bucket and Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. The storyline concerns a young boy (Highmore) winning a tour through the most magnificent chocolate factory in the world, led by an eccentric candy maker (Depp). Development for another adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory began in 1991, which resulted in Warner Bros. providing the Dahl Estate with total artistic control. Prior to Burton’s involvement, directors such as Gary Ross, Rob Minkoff, Martin Scorsese and Tom Shadyac had been involved, while Warner Bros. either considered or discussed the role of Willy Wonka with Nicolas Cage, Jim Carrey, Michael Keaton, Brad Pitt, Will Smith and Adam Sandler. Burton immediately brought regular collaborators Johnny Depp and Danny Elfman aboard. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory represents the first time since The Nightmare Before Christmas that Elfman contributed to the film score using written songs and his vocals. |
